Weapons Sweeps |
||
|
This morning I joined with other officers from wards across Battersea to carry out a series of ‘Weapons Sweeps’. These are thorough searches in parks and communal spaces as part of our activity this week in support of Operation Sceptre (a national campaign which takes place for one week, twice a year, to tackle knife crime). This proactive measure aims to remove knives hidden for potential use in offences and seeks to disrupt the availability of weapons.
Tucked away in a bin store on the Lochinvar estate in Balham my colleague found a bread knife which judging by the rust on the blade had been there for a little while.
While in the grassy area next to St Mark’s children’s playground on Battersea Rise we found a safety razor, a golf club and the shank of a screwdriver.
We brought all of the items we found back to Lavender Hill Police Station to be disposed of safely. They are pictured below, but as I am not allowed to post a photo of the knife I have drawn it instead.
